A very popular plant in recent years that can grow on dry as well as wet and chalky soil and is very winter hardy. Tolerates shade. Broad shrub or small tree. Produces an abundance of white flowers in April-May before leaf development; the leaves are reddish when they emerge. During the summer they are green, covered with silvery hairs and turn a beautiful scarlet red in the fall. Produces tasty fruits in July-August.
