Amsonia tabernaemontana var. salicifolia

Category: Perennials — Amsonia

A perennial plant with an upright growth habit and narrow, willow-like leaves, hence the name salicifolia (willow-leaved). It can reach a height of 80 to 100 cm. From May to June, the plant blooms with star-shaped, light blue flowers. In autumn, the leaves develop beautiful golden-yellow autumn colors. The ideal location is in sun or partial shade in well-drained, humus-rich soil. This Amsonia is often used for borders, prairie gardens, and natural plantings, where it can add structure. The plant is very winter-hardy. Amsonia contains a milky sap that, when released when pruned, can cause skin irritation in some people.
