Echium vulgare

Category: Perennials — Viper's bugloss, Adder bugloss

A pirennial or biennial plant with an upright growth habit that can reach a height of 80 to 100 cm. From June to September, flowers appear in bluish-purple, sometimes pink hues upon opening, on rough, hairy stems. Echium vulgare prefers a sunny location in well-drained, dry, chalky soil. This makes it suitable for wildflower meadows and natural plantings. The plant is very winter-hardy and highly resistant to diseases and pests. Caution: Slightly toxic to humans and animals if ingested. Contact with the rough hairs can also cause skin irritation.
