A perennial plant with a low, compact growth habit that can reach a height of 30 cm. Yellow flowers appear in small umbels from May to September. Lotus corniculatus prefers a sunny location in dry to moderately moist soil. This plant is suitable for rock gardens, grasslands, and roadsides. It is very hardy and resistant to diseases and pests. Although often used as animal feed, Lotus corniculatus contains small amounts of cyanogenic glycosides and is mildly toxic in excessive consumption, especially to non-ruminants.
