Myrrhis odorata

Category: Herbs — Sweet Cicely

This perennial plant has a bushy, upright growth habit and can reach a height of 80 to 100 cm. From May to July, it blooms with white, umbel-shaped flowers, which are attractive to butterflies and bees. The light green foliage has a fern-like appearance. The flowers, buds, and leaves develop an anise-like scent and flavor when crushed and can be used in salads, soups, and stews. Myrrhis odorata prefers a semi-shade to sunny location in well-drained, moist, nutrient-rich, calcareous soil. This plant can be used in herb gardens and natural plantings. It is very winter-hardy and highly resistant to diseases and pests.
