Pyrus pyrifolia 'Kosui'
Category: Fruit — Nashi pear
'Kosui' is the best-known variety of Nashi pear, originating from Asia. This Nashi pear is a deciduous, medium-sized tree with a rounded, open crown. The tree can reach a height of 3 to 5 meters. It blooms in April with numerous white flowers, and harvesting takes place in October. Pyrus pyrifolia 'Kosui' prefers a sunny location with well-drained, fertile soil. The tree produces golden-brown, juicy fruits with a crisp texture and sweet flavor. This cultivar is fairly winter-hardy, requires little pruning, but is susceptible to fire blight. It is partially self-pollinating, but cross-pollination increases yield.
